Green Thumbs

These gloves were designed more for warmth than for looks.  They look like bulky things, and if you make the thumbs green like I did they look huge.  But if you want you can continue the thumbs and make entire thumbs.  You could even make fingers too, if you so pleased, but I got impatient and didn’t make any fingers and hardly a thumb.  It’s up to you how you want to make these gloves!

MATERIALS

  • 4.5 mm hook
  • Sport weight yarn in black and lime
  • Basic crochet kit (scissors, large darning needle, open stitch marker, etc.)

DIRECTIONS

Using Colour A (black), ch 32.  Sl st to form ring (make sure it didn’t twist!).

Ch 1.  Sc 31. [31]

Ch 2.  Dc 31. [31]

Ch 2.  (Dc-dec, dc 3) 5x. [24]

Ch 2.  Dc 24. [24]

Rep last rnd 2x.

Ch 2.  (Inc, dc 5) 4x. [28]

Ch 2.  Dc 28.

Rep last rnd 2x.  Turn.

Ch 2.  Dc 27.  Turn.

Rep last rnd 3x.

Ch 1.  Sl st to form ring.

Ch 2.  Dc 28.

Rep last rnd 2x.  EO.

THUMB

Using Colour B (green), attach yarn to the ch 1 at top of thumb hole.

Sc 20.

Ch 1.  Sc 20.

Ch 1.  Sc 5, dec, sc 2, dec, sc 2, dec, sc 5.

Ch 1.  Sc 6, dec, sc 1, dec, sc 7.  EO.

Weave in all tails.  If you wish, sew 3 points across finger gap forming finger slots.

Make glove two following the directions above.
